How do I scrap my car?

Enter your vehicle registration, postcode and details about its condition to receive a valuation. If you accept an offer, one of our licensed collection partners will contact you to arrange collection.

How much is my car worth?

Your valuation is based on factors including the vehicle’s make, model, age, mileage, condition, location and whether any important parts are damaged or missing.

How is my quote calculated?

We use the vehicle information you provide to find a competitive offer from an appropriate collection, salvage or recycling partner.

What happens when I accept an offer?

Your details will be passed to the relevant collection partner, who will contact you to confirm the collection arrangements. You should make sure the vehicle remains in the condition described when requesting your quote.

Can my offer change?

Your offer is based on the information you provide. It may be revised or withdrawn if the vehicle has additional damage, missing parts, no keys, incorrect mileage or otherwise does not match its description.

Vehicle collection

Is collection free?

Yes. Vehicle collection is included as part of the service, provided the vehicle and collection location match the information supplied.

Is collection available in my area?

Enter your postcode when requesting a quote and we will check the collection options available in your area.

How soon can my vehicle be collected?

Collection will be arranged directly with the collection partner after you accept an offer. The available date will depend on your location and the partner’s schedule.

When do collections take place?

Collections usually take place from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Weekend collection may sometimes be available when agreed in advance with the collection partner.

Do I need to be present for collection?

You or an authorised person will normally need to be available to provide access, identification and the relevant vehicle documents. If this is not possible, discuss it with the collection partner beforehand.

Does my vehicle need to be accessible?

Yes. The vehicle should be in a safe, lawful and accessible location on solid ground. Tell us about restricted access, accident damage or missing wheels when requesting your quote.

Who will collect my vehicle?

Your vehicle will be collected by a third-party licensed collection, salvage or recycling partner. The partner will confirm the collection details with you before arriving.

Payment

How will I be paid?

Payment will be made by bank transfer using the details agreed with the collection partner. Scrap Car Junction does not make the payment directly.

When will I be paid?

Payment is usually arranged after the vehicle has been inspected and the final offer has been accepted at collection. The collection partner will confirm the exact payment arrangements.

Will I be paid in cash?

No. Payments are made by bank transfer, providing a clear and traceable record of the transaction.

Are there any charges or deductions?

Requesting a quote and arranging collection through Scrap Car Junction does not cost you anything. An offer may be adjusted if the vehicle does not match the information originally provided.

Documents and paperwork

What documents do I need?

You should have your V5C logbook available where possible, together with valid photo identification. You may also be asked for proof of address and evidence that you own or are authorised to dispose of the vehicle.

Can I scrap my car without a V5C logbook?

A missing V5C does not necessarily prevent collection, but you must tell us when requesting your quote. The collection partner will confirm what alternative ownership evidence and DVLA steps are required.

Will the collector complete the paperwork?

The collection partner will help complete the relevant collection and vehicle paperwork and should provide a receipt. You remain responsible for ensuring the DVLA is correctly notified unless expressly confirmed otherwise.

Will I receive a Certificate of Destruction?

If an eligible vehicle is completely scrapped by an Authorised Treatment Facility, a Certificate of Destruction should be issued. A certificate may not be issued if the vehicle is instead repaired or sold for salvage.

What happens to my road tax and insurance?

You should contact your insurer after the vehicle has been collected. You must also make sure the DVLA is notified so that the vehicle record and any eligible road tax refund can be dealt with correctly.

Can I keep my private registration?

Yes, but you must apply to remove or retain the private registration before the vehicle is collected. Do not hand over the vehicle until the DVLA has completed the process and issued the necessary documents.

Your vehicle

Does my vehicle need to be complete?

Not always, but you must tell us about missing wheels, batteries, catalytic converters, engines, gearboxes or other major parts. Missing components may affect the offer or whether collection can be arranged.

Can you collect a vehicle without keys?

Collection may still be possible. Tell us that the keys are missing when requesting your quote, as this can affect vehicle access, loading and its final value.

Do you accept cars, vans and 4x4s?

Yes. You can request offers for cars, vans and 4x4s in a wide range of conditions. Acceptance will depend on the vehicle details and collection coverage available.

Do you accept damaged vehicles and insurance write-offs?

Damaged vehicles and some insurance write-offs may be accepted. Provide the full damage and write-off details so the vehicle can be matched with a suitable salvage or recycling partner.

Can I scrap a vehicle with outstanding finance?

You must disclose any outstanding finance before accepting an offer. The vehicle cannot be sold or scrapped unless you have the legal authority to dispose of it and any required agreement has been obtained from the finance provider.

What happens to my vehicle after collection?

The collection partner will inspect the vehicle and determine whether it should be reused, salvaged or recycled. End-of-life vehicles are handled by licensed facilities in accordance with the applicable requirements.
